Poválečná historie Příbramska byla od sklonku 40. let 20. století neoddělitelně spjata s novodobým bouřlivým rozvojem místního hornictví v souvislosti s dobýváním zdejšího obzvlášť bohatého uran-polymetalického ložiska. Jeho exploatace trvala do roku 1991 a Příbramsko se díky ní zařadilo mezi nejvýznamnější uranová ložiska u nás i ve světě. Tato činnost zde zanechala nesmazatelné stopy.
Novodobý vývoj československého uranového hornictví se neoddělitelně snoubí s politickou situací v období 2. světové války 1939–1945, s událostmi odehrávajícími se zejména v jejím závěru a záhy poté. Tehdy se stal uran nepostradatelnou vojenskostrategickou surovinou při výrobě atomové zbraně, která přičiněním USA podstatně rychleji posunula Spojence z protihitlerovské koalice k vítězství nad společným nepřítelem, zeměmi tzv. Osy, a přinutila nakonec i posledního fanaticky bojujícího protivníka, Japonsko, ke kapitulaci. Zároveň vyšly najevo skutečnosti o tom, že uran může lidstvu sloužit i v jiných, ryze humánních oblastech.

Starting at the end of the 1940s, the history of the Příbram region was inextricably linked to the fast-paced development of modern mining, in terms of both the complicated processes used to determine the size of uranium deposits and subsequent efforts to extract the uranium ore. This lasted until 1991, making the Příbram region one of the most important areas for uranium mining in the Czech Republic and the world. During World War II, and especially toward its end, uranium had become an indispensable military-strategic raw material used in the production of nuclear weapons – weapons which, thanks to the efforts of the United States, propelled the allies from the anti-Hitler coalition to a much faster victory over the Axis powers, eventually forcing Japan to surrender and end the war. Meanwhile, it was discovered that uranium could also serve peacetime ends. Yet the world soon found itself again on the threshold of hostilities, this time in a protracted ‘cold’ war.
