The Mining Cottage

An illustration of the original mining folk architecture is represented by the mining cottage which is situated at the Březové Hory Community, Příbram. It is a part of the tour of the local mining museum. The first owner of the dwelling was a miner, his name was Bartoloměj Greilitz. In 1654 the Sladkovský family was living there. They were followed by many owners, most of them were miners. First the house was a wooden dwelling, in the early 19 th century it was rebuilt into a cottage made from unburnt bricks. The roofing material was made from shingle.

In 1976 the cottage was bought from its last owners, the Pilous family, by the Mining Museum. Two years later an exposition which illustrates the life of a mining family at the turn of the 20 th century was placed there. In successive steps some other displays were opened to public; the exhibit of toy-making and marionette-making, the exhibit of painted furniture and a display of historical working tools.
